Yellow Shoulder
A gentle, sweet natured amazon, these are a great choice for a quieter amazon, as well as slightly smaller than traditional amazon species. About 12 inches in length, they are native to Venezuela.
Yellow Shoulder Amazons are identified by their yellow head, and shoulders, and a red patch on their wings.
An expensive cage is not necessary as these birds will not be cage destructive. Buy larger rather than well made. They appreciate lots of room for multiple toys, perches, and wing flapping.
Feed them a high quality pelleted diet. Watch fat in their diet, as they may gain weight without exercise. Lots of fresh veggies, pasta, fish, chicken, eggs, and just a few nuts or seeds as treats.
Not as common in the pet market, when available, they go fast!
