Approximately 11" in size, the Pionus are often sought after as pets. Males and females appear the same and DNA is done to determine males from females.
Often considered to be one of the quietest birds, it might be a great consideration for someone living in an appartment or condo situation. They are sometimes shy, usually gentle, but can be easily stressed by new situations or a household that is too rambunctious.
Feed these parrots a high quality pelleted diet, fresh vegetables, fruit, pasta, eggs, and a good nut/seed mixture.
A cage needs to be large enough to accomodate perches of various sizes, toys and still allow the bird to open it's wings a flap. 24" x 24" is recommended.
These loving and sweet birds will do well in a quiet household without a lot of changes. Ideal for a mature person who lives in an apartment or condo. Usually quiet, they will be a loving companion for many years.
