Moluccan Cockatoo
Also called the "Salmon Crested", this Cockatoo species is one of the largest in the group. Approximately 21 inches in length, they require a huge, VERY well made cage. 36" x 48" is recommended. These birds are destructive in nature and will be so on toys, dishes, perches and cage bars.
Like most Cockatoos, the females sometimes have reddish irises as opposed to the male's black eye. Females, when compared to males, will also exhibit a smaller head.
Before considering this parrot, you must know that the noise factor is a ten on the scale of one to ten. Not a bird for apartments, condos or those who have breathing problems or allergies. They can be very dusty birds, although they usually love showers and those will greatly reduce the powder problem.
These birds will require space, a very large toy expense, and a lot of your time. When that can be given, they will be loving family members.
Feed them a high quality natural pellet in addition to vegetables, pasta, grains, sprouts, and in general a variety of healthy table food.
