Derbyan
These strikingly beautiful birds are different in appearance, males to females. The male has a bright red/orange beak and the female has an all black beak.
Approximately 20 inches in length, they are found natively in Tibet, Assam, and Western China. Shy by nature, they can make wonderful pets when handled frequently. Although they will prefer the company of other birds if allowed to be housed or kept with others, they are extremely intelligent and seem to enjoy interaction with
people if accustom to such.
They should be housed in a cage large enough to accommodate their long tail and open wing span, room for toys and multiple perches. 24"x24" is adequate size for their cage. Fed a pelleted diet with some high quality seed and nuts, vegetables and fruit. They enjoy a variety in their diet and will usually try new items without fear.
They have great talking abilities and are not an overly noisy bird. Gentle and shy by nature, they may prefer a quiet household with only one or two individuals. A great choice for adults, living alone, or in apartments and condos where noise may be a factor.
$599 UNWEANED, ON THREE HAND FEEDINGS DAILY, TO EXPERIENCED HAND FEEDERS.
$699 WEANED ON TO A PELLETED DIET.
