NOVEMBER'S BIRD OF THE MONTH IS THE BLUE & GOLD MACAW
LARGE BIRDS LIKE THE MACAWS CERTAINLY ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE, AND THOSE OF YOU IN APARTMENTS, CONDOS, OR CLOSE PROXIMITY TO NEIGHBORS, MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER A QUIETER SPECIES. BUT WHEN IT'S THE RIGHT BIRD FOR YOU, IT'S THE BEST!
Blue and Golds are approximately 34" from beak to tail. They are one of the smaller large Macaws. They are inquisitive, friendly, good imitators and bond very closely with their family members.
They do, of course, need a very large cage, and also a well made, sturdy cage, that will hold up to the destructive nature of the Macaw. Toys are not optional, they are mandatory and should be hard wood, for lots of chewing and to keep the beak in good shape.
Feed these wonderful pets a diet of pelleted food, a high-quality seed and nut mixture, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. They will also appreciate pasta, rice, well cooked chicken, eggs, and fish.
Purchase a shower perch for the ease of bathing these Macaws. They appreciate water, and in our climates, need frequent bathing to keep feathers and respiratory system in good health.
Usually not fearful of anything, these birds can travel with you, enjoy the outdoors when on a harness and wings are clipped, and truly be an involved part of your family. Raised to be snuggly and sweet of nature, our baby Macaws crave attention.
